Smartcat is one of the leading SaaS platforms and an AI-powered solution for content translation and localization (text, video, images), subtitle creation, and content generation. The platform is used in over 100 countries, bringing together more than 500,000 users and over 1,000 enterprise clients.

Objective: Reimagine the platform’s user experience by transforming a traditional SaaS interface into a next-generation product aligned with the rise of AI agents and new user interaction paradigms.

Solution: I contributed to designing a new product concept based on an agent-driven approach, where the primary interface is built around interaction with AI agents (assistants):
• AI agents as the core interface — introducing a chat-based interaction model where the agent acts as a “copilot,” simplifying user workflows
• Custom agent builder — enabling users to create their own AI agents and configure workflows tailored to their specific needs
• Contextualization — enriching agents with user data and domain expertise to improve translation quality
• End-to-end workflows — designing translation, review, and localization processes within a chat-based interaction model

Result:
• A more intuitive and flexible UX achieved by shifting from a tool-based interface to agent-driven interaction
• Simplified complex localization workflows by replacing multiple legacy SaaS screens with a unified chat interface

The platform uses a token-based system, where users spend credits (“Smartwords”) on translation, content generation, and interactions with AI agents. This model provides transparent usage control and aligns costs with actual workflow activity.
